Shipping Restrictions

Alcohol is regulated at state, county and municipal level in the United States, so the list of places we can deliver to is shorter than the list of places we cannot. This page explains how those restrictions work and what happens if your address falls outside the permitted area.

Physical addresses in permitted states only

A delivery address must be a physical street address in a state where direct-to-consumer alcohol delivery is allowed. We cannot deliver to PO boxes, parcel lockers, freight forwarders, or addresses outside the United States.

Dry and limited areas

Even inside a permitted state, some counties and municipalities are dry or impose their own limits on the quantity of alcohol that may be delivered. The checkout validates the full address rather than just the state, and will not accept an order it cannot lawfully fulfil.

Quantity limits

Several states cap the volume of alcohol a single household may receive in a given period, and some require the carrier to report deliveries. Where a cap applies, the checkout limits what you can put in the basket and explains why. We may also split a large order across several shipments in order to stay inside the rules.

Adult signature is not optional

Every delivery requires the signature of an adult aged 21 or over. The courier will not leave a parcel at the door, with a concierge or with a neighbour, and will not release it without identification if asked. Orders that fail this check come back to us.

Gifts and onward shipping

If you are sending a bottle as a gift, the recipient becomes the person who must verify age and sign for it. We cannot mark a parcel as a gift in order to bypass an age check, and we cannot help reroute a parcel into a different state once it has left our warehouse.

If your address cannot be served

The checkout will tell you before payment is taken. If an order is accepted and we later find that the destination is restricted, we will cancel it and refund you in full rather than attempt delivery.

Rules change

Alcohol shipping rules are amended regularly. The state list, quantity caps and carrier requirements used at checkout are updated as changes are confirmed, and this page is updated alongside them.
